The Indonesian Association of Fiber & Filament Producers (APSyFI) reported that five textile factories will cease operations during 2025. The closures are expected to result in about 3,000 job losses. The affected plants produce synthetic fibers and rayon.

APSyFI attributes the shutdowns to an influx of imported goods sold at dumping prices (below production cost), which erodes domestic sales. Six other factories are already operating at less than 50 % of capacity, with some polymerization machines shut down. These factors squeeze profit margins and cash flow.

The closures signal a deindustrialisation risk for the upstream textile sector, potentially lowering national production capacity. APSyFI urges the government to tighten import controls and publish import‑quota data transparently to curb dumping practices. Such measures are viewed as essential to protect workers and sustain the industry.
