Government Begins Construction of Legislative and Judicial

The IKN Authority officially launched the construction of the legislative and judicial complex in the new capital on 14 December 2025. The ceremony marked the signing of eight construction contracts. The project will house the nation’s high‑level institutions.

The development is intended to transform IKN into the political capital by 2028, shifting legislative and judicial functions from Jakarta. Five contracts cover 16 legislative office buildings on 41.81 ha, while two contracts involve four judicial buildings on 15.15 ha. An additional contract provides three IKN Authority Phase II offices and three police stations on a combined 6.0 ha.

The total budget is estimated at IDR 12 trillion, financed through a multiyears scheme (payments spread over several years). Completion of Phase II is expected to accelerate the consolidation of government functions and attract investment to the area. Taxpayers and businesses may face higher fiscal commitments, but the project also creates construction contract opportunities.
