Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said electric vehicle sales in Indonesia rose 18.27 percent in October 2025, while gasoline‑powered car sales remained flat. The figures indicate growing consumer interest in electrified transportation.
He noted that sales of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles showed no growth, suggesting a shift toward electric mobility. The Ministry of Industry spokesperson, Febri Hendri Antoni Arief, reported that 73 percent of the 69,146 electric vehicles sold in 2025 were imported. This import dominance limits domestic value‑added production and job creation.
Airlangga warned that higher EV uptake could push down prices of fuel‑powered cars, making them more affordable. The government is reviewing fiscal incentives aimed at the local automotive sector to sustain competitiveness and protect workers. Such measures are intended to accelerate the adoption of domestically produced electric vehicles.
