President Prabowo inaugurated Lotte Chemical's plant in Cilegon, Banten on 6 November 2025. The ceremony was attended by senior government officials and Lotte Group representatives.
The $4.2 billion (about Rp62.4 trillion) facility is part of South Korea's Lotte Chemical Corporation and ranks among the largest petrochemical investments in Southeast Asia. It processes naphtha into basic chemicals and downstream products such as plastic bottles, cables, and car bumpers; Minister Bahlil said 70 % will substitute imports while 30 % will be exported, generating roughly $2 billion in annual revenue.
The plant is expected to strengthen downstream industry, improve the trade balance, and provide jobs and other benefits to the surrounding community.
