Indonesia Pursues Hyundai Partnership for Eco‑Vehicle Project

Economy Minister Airlangga Hartarto said Indonesia will explore an investment partnership with Hyundai Motor Group, the South Korean automaker. The discussion took place during his meeting with Hyundai President Amb Sung Kim at the APEC summit in Gyeongju, South Korea, on 2 November 2025.

The collaboration is expected to focus on hydrogen‑powered vehicles and other clean‑energy technologies as part of Indonesia’s green‑economy transition strategy. Hyundai also expressed interest in joint work on AI, robotics and low‑emission mobility solutions.

If realized, the project could boost the competitiveness of the national automotive sector and reinforce Indonesia’s role as a regional automotive hub. The ongoing transformation of state‑owned enterprises into a super‑holding, Danantara, is seen as a positive signal for global investors.
