Airlangga Urges Stronger Economic Cooperation with US

Economy Minister Airlangga Hartarto urged the United States to strengthen strategic economic cooperation. The bilateral meeting took place on 26 October 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, during the ASEAN 47 summit.

The talks covered tariff negotiations, implementation of Strategic Trade Management (management of strategic trade), and cooperation on Export Control and Related Border Security (EXBS). They also discussed the planned Southeast Asia Forum on Export Control (SEAFEC) for 2026 and U.S. investment in digital economy, artificial intelligence (AI) and data centers.

Hartarto highlighted investment opportunities in nickel refining, high‑end semiconductors and renewable energy, including Small Modular Reactor (SMR) projects. Strengthened ties are expected to boost supply‑chain resilience, accelerate technology transfer and support inclusive economic growth in Indonesia.
