On 27 November 2025, Customs officials from the Central Java‑DIY regional office stopped a red wooden truck on the Semarang toll road at kilometre 436C, Sawah Besar, Gayamsari district. The inspection uncovered 2.39 million cigarettes lacking tax stamps (pita cukai).
The cargo comprised 82 cartons of machine‑made kretek cigarettes of various brands, valued at roughly IDR 3.5 billion, creating an estimated tax loss of IDR 1.7 billion. The seizure followed intelligence indicating illegal cigarette shipments, in violation of Articles 54 and 56 of the Indonesian Excise Law.
The driver and the truck were taken to the regional Customs office for further investigation, and the seized goods were retained. Offenders face imprisonment of one to five years and fines ranging from two to ten times the unpaid excise duty.
