Free Nutritious Meal Program Targets 82.9 Million by Feb 2026

Indonesia’s National Nutrition Agency (BGN) estimates that the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program will reach 82.9 million beneficiaries nationwide by the end of February 2026. This would cover almost half of the country’s population. The program is financed through the state budget.
To achieve this coverage, BGN plans to add between 31,000 and 33,000 Nutrition Service Units (SPPG), including roughly 25,400 units in urban agglomerations and 8,200 units in remote areas. Currently, MBG serves 49 million people via 17,060 SPPG across 38 provinces, 509 regencies/cities, and 7,022 districts. The rollout faces challenges such as natural disasters and technical verification delays, making the February deadline realistic.
The MBG budget this year is Rp71 trillion and is projected to rise to Rp335 trillion in 2026, fully sourced from the state budget, which relies on tax revenues for about 70 % of its funding. Expanding MBG is expected to improve national nutrition status and reduce public health burdens.
