Customs Boost Crackdown on Illegal Excise Goods Nationwide
December 5, 2025 • Ben Asmadeus

Customs and Excise Director General Djaka Budhi Utama said on 5 December 2025 that the agency is tightening supervision and cracking down on illegal excise goods (BKC) across Indonesia. The enforcement aligns with DJBC’s mandate to protect the public from hazardous products and to safeguard the business climate and state revenue.
From January to October 2025, DJBC seized about 954 million illegal cigarettes, a 40.9 % rise over the same period last year. The seized items, which also included alcoholic beverages (MMEA), were destroyed as state-owned goods (BMMN), with an estimated loss to the treasury of roughly IDR 31.3 billion. Operations were carried out in almost all provinces, reflecting improved inter‑agency coordination.
The actions aim to recover lost excise, import duties, VAT and income tax, thereby boosting state revenue and protecting public health. DJBC calls on the public and businesses to comply with regulations to strengthen the national business environment. Ongoing surveillance is essential to curb the circulation of illegal BKC.
