Beware of Taxpayer Data Verification Scams via WhatsApp
November 1, 2025 • Ben Asmadeus

JAKARTA – Indonesia’s Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) warned taxpayers on 1 November 2025 about a rise in scams impersonating tax officials via WhatsApp messages. Scammers send fake tax‑invoice files in .apk format and ask for business or personal data verification.
The schemes also include links to counterfeit M‑Tax applications that contain malware to steal mobile data, and requests for payment to private bank accounts. DGT stresses that the tax authority never asks for personal data or tax payments through WhatsApp.
Taxpayers are urged not to click any links or download .apk files and to make payments only with the official billing code. For verification, they can contact the Tax Hotline at 1500200 or visit the nearest tax office.
