UMKM Ministry Urges Marketplace to Ban Imported Used Clothing

JAKARTA, 10 November 2025 – The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) has asked e‑commerce platforms such as Shopee, Lazada and Tokopedia to regulate the sale of imported used clothing. The request was made on Monday, 10 November 2025, as part of enforcing the ban on imported second-hand garments.
Deputy for Small Business, Temmy Satya Permana, said the marketplaces are prepared to comply with Trade Regulation No. 31/2023, which prohibits imported used clothing, but enforcement will be phased to avoid shutting out compliant sellers. Sellers may still offer personal-owned used items or domestically produced second-hand goods.
The UMKM Ministry will also link sellers with local brands to become official resellers, aiming to protect UMKM income. The measure is intended to shift merchants toward substitute products and strengthen the domestic supply chain.
