The Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) announced on 29 November 2025 in Bali that it has expanded cooperation with Korea, Thailand and Singapore to develop artificial‑intelligence (AI) systems for detecting tax evasion and avoidance. Director General Bimo Wijayanto said the joint effort will create algorithms that can automatically score and flag non‑compliant taxpayers. The briefing highlighted the goal of strengthening tax compliance across the region.
Under a memorandum of understanding with Korea’s National Tax Service, DJP will conduct mutual visits to share AI‑based collection techniques. In Thailand, DJP is testing AI tools to monitor personal income‑tax compliance, while Singapore’s Inland Revenue Authority has offered training and participation in an automatic exchange of information (AEoI) framework. The collaborations also include knowledge sharing with Japan and Australia on tax‑crime handling.
The AI initiatives are expected to enhance the detection of illicit tax practices and support more efficient tax collection in Indonesia. By integrating automated data exchange, the DJP aims to improve overall tax administration and reduce revenue losses. The projects reflect a broader regional push to modernize tax enforcement through technology.
