Indonesia Tax Agency and MUI Launch Task Force on Fair Tax Fatwa

Jakarta, 29 November 2025 – Indonesia’s Tax Authority (DJP) and the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) have agreed to create a task force to follow up on the newly issued fair‑tax fatwa. The task force will examine the nine‑point fatwa that emphasizes fiscal justice.

The fair‑tax fatwa, released at MUI’s 11th National Assembly (Munas XI), recommends measures such as a progressive tax on large‑wealth owners and exemption of taxes on essential goods. The task force was formed after a meeting between MUI Fatwa Chairman Asrorun Ni’am Sholeh and DJP Director General Bimo Wijayanto to discuss current tax schemes.

Adoption of the recommendations could make Indonesia’s tax system more transparent and aligned with justice principles, potentially boosting taxpayer compliance. Findings will be submitted to the government for possible incorporation into future tax regulations.
