Indonesia Ministry aims to finish Redenomination Bill by 2027

JAKARTA – Indonesia’s Ministry of Finance plans to draft a Redenomination Bill for the rupiah, aiming to complete it by 2027. The proposal is included in Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa’s Strategic Plan (PMK No 70/2025) released on 10 October 2025.

The bill seeks to reduce the number of currency digits, improve economic efficiency, and preserve the rupiah’s stable value and credibility. Redenomination has been discussed in PMK No 77/2020 and with Bank Indonesia for more than a decade.

The Directorate General of Treasury has been assigned as the lead agency for the draft. Once enacted, the reform could simplify transactions, accounting and state budget reporting, affecting businesses and consumers.
