JAKARTA – The government aims for Indonesia to become a full member of the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co‑operation and Development) before President Prabowo Subianto’s term ends. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto announced the target on 13 December 2025. He stressed the need for all ministries and agencies (K/L) to work together in the accession process.
To meet the goal, every ministry and agency is required to align its policies and regulations with OECD global standards. OECD committees are currently conducting a technical review (the evaluation stage after the accession roadmap is submitted) for three initial sectors: environment, trade, and digital policy. Airlangga urged a swift response to OECD questionnaires, noting that assessments rely on concrete evidence rather than political promises.
Membership is seen as a catalyst for structural reforms in the economic, social, and governance arenas, consistent with the Indonesia Vision 2045 and President Prabowo’s priorities. OECD Deputy Secretary‑General Frantisek Ruzicka said the organization is ready to provide technical assistance and strengthen cross‑sector reforms. The accession is expected to generate policies that improve public welfare and quality of life.
