Importer Obligations During Physical Inspection of Imported Goods
December 3, 2025 • Ben Asmadeus

JAKARTA, December 3 2025 – The Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DGCE) announced that imported goods may be subject to physical inspection in addition to document review under the Customs Law. Physical inspections are applied to shipments released through the red lane, which is designated for high‑risk cargo.
DGCE selects items for inspection through risk‑based management analysis, aiming to verify quantity, type, specifications, country of origin, and any undeclared items. Importers must submit supporting documents (invoice, packing list, bill of lading) by 12:00 pm the next day after receiving the Red‑Lane Notification (SPJM). They also must prepare the goods at the inspection site, attend or appoint a representative, and open each package for examination.
Compliance with these obligations speeds customs clearance and avoids administrative penalties. Timely fulfillment helps importers maintain supply‑chain continuity and prevents cargo detention.
