JAKARTA – The Ministry of Finance reported that tax refunds in 2025 totalled Rp340.52 trillion, driven by a two-year postponement of payouts. The delay covered excess tax payments for fiscal years 2023 and 2024 that were only disbursed in 2025.

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa explained that the current disbursement aggregates refunds deferred from the previous two years, raising the tax receipt posture for January‑October 2025. The refunds comprise Rp93.8 trillion corporate income tax (up 80 %) and Rp238.86 trillion value‑added tax (up 23.9 %). The Directorate General of Taxes indicated about Rp250 trillion originated from audits of the 2023‑2024 tax years.

To prevent future accumulations, the Directorate General of Taxes will manage refunds together with the Directorate General of Economic and Fiscal Strategy, aiming for a more orderly payout pattern. Taxpayers remain entitled to request refunds when they overpay, with audits required to be completed within 12 months under Article 17B of the Tax Procedures Law.
