DPR Calls for Fiscal Incentives to Boost Shipbuilding Industry
December 7, 2025 • Ben Asmadeus

The House of Representatives Commission VII urged the government on 7 December 2025 to provide fiscal incentives for Indonesia’s shipyard industry. The request was made by Deputy Chair Lamhot Sinaga in Jakarta.
Sinaga highlighted the sector’s large potential given Indonesia’s maritime geography and cited Batam, which accounts for 44 % of national shipyard capacity, as a success story. He noted that Batam’s growth stems from its free‑trade zone status, which allows tax‑free import of raw materials and lowers construction costs.
The commission seeks nationwide incentive measures such as tax reductions, subsidies or other financial support to make domestic shipbuilding more competitive and to strengthen the country’s maritime economy.
