Bangladesh Updates Online VAT Refund System

Bangladesh’s National Board of Revenue (NBR) launched an online VAT refund module on 11 November 2025 in Dhaka. The new system lets taxpayers submit applications and receive refunds via the internet without visiting a tax office.
The module is linked to the Integrated VAT Administration System (iVAS) and iBAS++ in the Finance Division, and uses the Bangladesh Electronic Funds Transfer Network to credit refunds directly to taxpayers’ bank accounts. NBR also provided comprehensive training for all tax officers to handle the online process efficiently.
For taxpayers, the online procedure cuts travel time and costs while enhancing refund transparency. For the government, the initiative advances digitalization, automation and accountability in VAT administration.
