Purbaya: Slowdown, Not Tax Officers, Behind Missed Target

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said on 9 November 2025 that the 2025 tax revenue target was not missed because of tax officers. The comment was posted on his official TikTok account.

He explained that the slowdown in national economic performance is the main cause, reflected by a 4.4% contraction in tax receipts compared with the previous year and high restitution payouts. By September 2025, revenue reached only 1.295 trillion rupiah, or 62.4% of the projected outlook.

Purbaya expects tax collection to improve in 2026 as economic growth is projected to return to around 6%, and he urged tax staff to maintain integrity in service delivery. Achieving the revised target is intended to stabilize state revenue.
