Purbaya Engages Indonesian Hackers to Secure Coretax

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa announced on 27 October 2025 that he has gathered a group of Indonesia's best hackers to test the security of Coretax, the tax administration system. The move follows an internal assessment that rated the system's security at only 30 out of 100.

The selected hackers have experience with major technology firms, including Google, and have received training abroad, such as in Russia. Purbaya noted that employing their services mirrors practices he used in other ministries, like the Deposit Insurance Corporation and the Ministry of Defense.

Strengthening security aims to protect taxpayer data and boost public confidence in the Directorate General of Taxes. A dedicated IT team will continuously monitor and improve the system after the testing phase.
