Portugal’s Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Margarida Balseiro Lopes, voiced support for a proposal to lower VAT on artworks. She argues that a reduced rate would make art transactions more attractive and boost the competitiveness of Portugal’s art market.

Lopes noted that Portugal must stay competitive in the global market, particularly regarding art taxation.
