The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) announced on 1 November 2025 in Jakarta that the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program aims to reach 82.9 million beneficiaries by year‑end. The initiative is primarily financed through the country's tax revenues.
There are currently 13,347 nutrition service units (SPPG) operating, with an average addition of 200 units per day. BGN plans to add 5,000–6,000 SPPG in remote areas while strengthening the food supply chain and quality supervision of MBG. The 2025 budget for MBG is estimated at IDR 99 trillion, increasing to IDR 335 trillion for 2026.
The government stresses inter‑agency coordination and has set up a daily monitoring team at the Ministry of Agriculture to prevent any rise in food prices. Successful delivery of MBG is vital for national food security and illustrates the pivotal role of tax revenue in funding social programs.
