Prabowo Orders UMKM to Aid Thrifting Sellers with Local Goods
November 6, 2025 • Ben Asmadeus

President Prabowo Subianto held a limited cabinet meeting at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on 6 November 2025 and instructed UMKM Minister Maman Abdurrahman not to shut down thrifting merchants but to guide them toward selling locally produced goods.
The instruction comes as thrifting sellers protest Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa’s crackdown on illegal imported second‑hand clothing. The president asked the UMKM ministry to ensure these traders can continue operating by offering domestic products and to develop solutions, including accelerating the integrated digital platform Sapa UMKM for licensing, financing and marketing.
If implemented, the policy could preserve informal retail activity, boost demand for Indonesian products and improve digital service delivery for the estimated 57 million micro‑enterprises, supporting broader economic formalisation.
