New Bolivian President Plans to Eliminate Four Taxes
December 13, 2025 • Ben Asmadeus

Bolivia’s newly inaugurated President Rodrigo Paz announced on 13 December 2025 his intention to eliminate four taxes. The announcement was made through the presidential office in an official statement.
The taxes slated for removal include the wealth tax, the financial transaction tax, and two gambling taxes. The wealth tax, introduced in 2020, applies to assets above BOB30 million (about Rp72.3 million) with rates of 1.4‑2.4 %; the financial transaction tax, set at 0.3 % since 2004, is said to deter formal banking participation.
Paz argues that abolishing these taxes will lower the cost of economic activity and facilitate growth in productive sectors. He also said the government will offset the revenue loss by cutting state spending by at least 30 % to reduce fiscal deficit.
