Government Drafts Policy to Revive Textile and Apparel Sector
December 11, 2025 • Ben Asmadeus

The Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs and Prospera held a strategic policy forum on 11 December 2025 in Jakarta to discuss revitalizing the textile and apparel sector. The event gathered senior ministry officials and industry experts.
The forum produced 20 policy recommendations grouped into four pillars: strengthening the value chain from upstream to downstream, protecting the domestic market, leveraging the EU‑CEPA agreement, and focusing on high‑value garments and sustainable materials. These measures address challenges such as skill gaps, heavy reliance on imported inputs, high energy and logistics costs, and competition from excess capacity in China.
The recommendations will feed into the inter‑agency Working Group on Textile and Apparel Revitalization and form the basis of the National Strategy for Sustainable and Competitive Textile and Apparel Development. The intended outcome is higher sector contribution to GDP, job creation, and improved global competitiveness.
