Dominica Waives VAT on 26 Essential Goods
November 28, 2025 • Ben Asmadeus

The government of Dominica announced a plan to waive VAT on 26 essential goods. Finance Minister Irving McIntyre presented the proposal at a press conference in Santo Domingo on 28 November 2025.
The exemption aims to lessen the economic burden on households and has been submitted to parliament for approval. The listed items, including cod, onions, beans and household products, are also exempt from import duties, and the foreign minister encourages imports from CARICOM members with zero tariffs.
If enacted, the measure is expected to lower retail prices and improve access to basic necessities. Its implementation requires amendment of the VAT Act and cooperation from distributors to pass the benefits to consumers.
