JAKARTA – The Indonesian government has decided to apply a Security Tariff (BMTP) on cotton yarn imports starting 30 October 2025. The tariff will be in effect for three years, until 29 October 2028.
The measure follows an investigation by the Indonesian Trade Security Committee (KPPI) at the request of the Indonesian Textile Association (API), which found declines in production, sales, employment and capacity utilization in the domestic cotton yarn sector. BMTP is set at Rp7,500 per kilogram for the first year, Rp7,388 for the second year and Rp7,277 for the third year, covering tariff codes 5204‑5206.
The tariff aims to prevent serious losses for local manufacturers and provides time for structural adjustments. It reflects the government's effort to safeguard the national textile industry against a surge in imports.
